Distance Learning Program
The National Museum of the Marine Corps facilitates learning all over the world through online distance learning programs to engage audiences with the incredible history of the United States Marine Corps. Programs include a plethora of virtual learning experiences and subject matter for students, educators and lifelong learners to learn important and interesting topics related to the Marine Corps such as, Animals in the Military, Navajo Code Talkers, The Montford Point Marine and many more.

COVID-19 UPDATE:
While Virginia public schools currently remain closed to in-person instruction and focus on virtual learning, our “Teaching Trunks” will continue to serve students virtually. These free programs cover Virginia Standards of Learning curriculum in addition to the History of the United States Marine Corps for Elementary, Middle, and High school levels.
At the Elementary level our Past and Present Program explores Colonial life and the Revolutionary War. Students learn the difference between the past and the present while also seeing what ship life was like for Continental Marines.
At the Middle and High School levels there are a couple of available programs. Including a WWI Centennial Commemoration that features common items Marines carried during the Great War. This program also discusses how Armistice Day evolved into Veterans Day.
The Cold War program explains the unique and different challenges Marines faced in both Korea and Vietnam. Students get to explore the many ways Marines adapted their
uniforms and equipment to meet extreme weather conditions.

This is the asynchronous Past and Present trunk program. This program discusses life during Colonial times, Colonial Marines and showcases the Museum's Defending the New Republic and Children's galleries, while encouraging students to exercise their knowledge on the terms "Past and Present".
