Volunteer Programs
The National Museum of the Marine Corps is searching for a few good men and women to help tell the story of the Marine Corps to visitors from around the world. Available volunteer programs: Docents Answer questions about the Museum and surrounding area. Conduct special tours, answer questions, and assist visitors in the galleries. The ideal candidate need not have served in the Marine Corps or have any ties to the military. The chief requirements are an interest in Marine Corps history and plenty of energy! Seeking Docent Trainees for 2025! Art Docents Assist in the Combat Art Gallery and share information about the works of art and the artists with visitors. Hospitality Ambassadors Serve as the welcoming face of the Museum. Greet visitors, assist with way finding, thank visitors, gather feedback on visitor experiences, and perform special assignments. Candidates for this position should enjoy working with the public and have positive customer service and interpersonal skills. They should be reliable, like working on a team, and can take initiative. Education Volunteers Work with mostly youth and family audiences at museum programs to include family days, Scout programs, home school days, and more. Volunteer Program Requirements
Volunteer positions are open to all individuals with an interest and a commitment of service to the Museum who meet the qualifications without reference to race, color, religion, sex, age, or national origin. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and able to perform their prescribed duties. A minimum time commitment of 8 hours per month is required to maintain volunteer status. Volunteers work independently, with other volunteers, and with permanent Museum staff. Application and Training Applications are submitted to the Visitor Services Chief. Applicants will be contacted for an interview by a member of the Visitor Services team. A comprehensive training program is designed to prepare participants to operate effectively in their role as a NMMC volunteer. This invaluable training program features sessions highlighting each exhibit area and its collections. This mandatory training is scheduled as the requirement for new volunteers warrants.
