Collections Archive Special Assistant works in the Collections Branch under the direction of the Restoration Chief to inventory, preserve, and document the library and archival holdings.
Duties:
Social Media Special Assistant helps develop strategies to increase the active fan base and user engagement across all NMMC social media platforms to increase overall awareness and attendance of the NMMC and its programs. The Social Media Special Assistant will be responsible for creating original text, photos and video content, reviewing posts, drafting responses to followers and assist with electronic newsletters and website updates. The Special Assistant will be up-to-date with the latest digital technologies and social media trends. The position requires evening and weekend shifts that vary from week to week.

Education & Visitor Services Special Assistant works with the Education and Visitor Services staff to schedule and coordinate school groups, ceremonies, and assists with public programming in the Museum. This Special Assistant may work remotely up to 12 hours each week.

- Inventory and catalog the library and archival collections.
- Conduct condition assessments of the archival collections.
- Research and identify electronic publications.
- Digitize and preserve collections.
- Rehouse archival collections as needed.
- Basic knowledge of archives, records management, and research
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suite
- Preferred degree in U.S. history, archival science, or library science.
- Attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
- Team player
- Interest in military and/or American history

- Assist with content on social media platforms to include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, and LinkedIn.
- Generate content for approval and share engaging content daily (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news).
- Draft responses to queries in a timely manner and monitor reviews.
- Prepare monthly social media engagement reports.
- Photograph artifacts and events for social media.
- Assist with input for social media design (e.g. Facebook timeline cover, profile pictures and blog layout).
- Suggest and assist with implementation of new features for brand awareness.
- Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and application.
- Assist with producing e-newsletter and updates to website.
- Strong written and visual communication skills
- Experience with social media platforms for business
- Experience with content management programs
- Strong photography skills
- Ability to create videos for social media
- Strong editing skills

- Act as the point of contact for student groups as they make visitation plans.
- Schedule groups for ceremonies in the Museum.
- Utilize museum calendar software, schedule groups, and reserve spaces (training will be provided).
- Provide logistical support for groups to ensure successful group visits.
- Provide Museum staff with weekly reports on numbers of reservations, ceremonies, and attendance at each.
- Assist Museum staff with public programming.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to engage with children and adults in a friendly and professional manner.
- Comfortable greeting scheduled groups to the Museum and interacting in a group setting.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
- Team player.
- Attention to detail.
