A Mississippi native, Marc Poole is an art instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and has been sharing his love of art with students since 1999. He earned his MFA from Mississippi State University in 2001. A freelance artist and regular contributor to the American Society of Aviation Artists, he achieves at least some of his perspective and inspiration while at the controls of general aviation aircraft.
Black Sheep Over Baghdad - An oil painting depicting a Close Air Support mission flown during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The painting was researched with the assistance of the pilot, Capt. Tyler “Hefty” Bardo, who flew the mission on 10 April2003, while with VMA-214 “Black Sheep”in AV-8B Harrier II Bureau Number 165567.
Tip of the Spear: Dirty Dar Over Tallil - One of two oil paintings created from research of the initial USMC air strike during Operation Desert Storm. It depicts F/A-18A Bureau Number 163132 "Dirty Dar" of VMFA-451 (Warlords), flown by John "Z-Man" Zuppan, at the moment he released his payload over Tallil Air Base, Iraq.
Vini Vici - The second of two oil paintings created from research of the initial USMC air strike during Operation Desert Storm. It depicts F/A-18A Bureau Number 163132 "Dirty Dar" of VMFA-451 (Warlords), flown by John "Z-Man" Zuppan, and squadron commander “Scotty” Dudley egressing from their bomb release over Tallil Air Base, Iraq.
Harrier Carrier - This oil painting LHA-4 Nassau in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm, when she deployed with a full squadron of Marine AV-8B Harriers, the first time the concept of LHA as aircraft carrier had been put to practice in combat. It features a small tribute to Captain Reginald "Woody" Underwood, Killed in Action on 27 February 1991 when his AV-8B Harrier, Bureau Number 162740 "Magic 14" of VMA-331 "Bumble Bees" was shot down by an Iraqi surface to air missile near Safwan, Iraq. Also depicted is Manuel (Manny) "Buick" Rivera, who was lost in a landing approach the month before, on 22 January. His ship, "Magic 11" is featured hovering to land.
